CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight)
Cost, Insurance and Freight, an Incoterm for sea transport. The seller pays freight to the named destination port and buys minimum marine insurance cover for the buyer. Risk, however, passes to the buyer when goods are loaded on the vessel at origin. Buyers who want broader insurance than the minimum required should arrange it or ask for it.
