Chemicals shipped to Bangladesh

Bangladesh's pharmaceutical formulators supply most of the country's medicines and export to many markets, so their demand for APIs, intermediates and impurity standards is steady and sizeable. Plants are concentrated around Dhaka, Savar, Gazipur and Tongi. The garment industry drives a separate stream of dyes, finishing chemicals and auxiliaries, and leather tanning, ceramics and paints, food and beverage, and fertiliser production in Chattogram and Narayanganj add further volume. Zemixal ships from Nhava Sheva or Mundra to Chattogram in about 14–21 days, with Mongla and the Pangaon inland terminal also served. Air cargo to Hazrat Shahjalal International in Dhaka takes roughly 2–4 days. Every lot carries a COA and a 16-section GHS SDS, and SAFTA or APTA certificates of origin can be issued for eligible products.

Importing chemicals into Bangladesh

Importers need an Import Registration Certificate and normally open a letter of credit through their bank. APIs and pharmaceutical raw materials must be approved by the DGDA, often through an approved raw-material list. Flammable solvents need licences from the Department of Explosives, and precursor chemicals require clearance from the Department of Narcotics Control. Goods of Indian origin can claim SAFTA or APTA preferences with the right certificate of origin. Dangerous goods follow IMDG or IATA rules.

Questions

Shipping to Bangladesh

How should letter of credit documents be prepared for Bangladesh?
Send us the draft letter of credit before it is issued so we can check the product names, quantities, Incoterm, shipment date and document list. Our invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and bill of lading are then prepared to match it exactly, which avoids discrepancies.
Can flammable solvents be flown to Dhaka?
Some can within IATA limits, often on cargo aircraft only, but most solvent orders travel by sea to Chattogram. A Department of Explosives licence is needed either way. We check each UN number and packing group and confirm the route.
Which preferential certificate should we request for duty savings?
Depending on the product, either a SAFTA or an APTA certificate of origin may reduce duty. Tell us which scheme your broker plans to use, and we will confirm eligibility for each line on the quotation. The certificate is issued at export and travels with the shipping documents.
