Dilution Calculator (C1V1 = C2V2)
Prepare a working solution from a stock. Enter the stock concentration, the concentration you want and the final volume.
Results update as you type. Nothing is sent or stored.
C1 and C2 must use the same unit.
Stock volume V1—
How the result is worked out
V1 = C2 × V2 ÷ C1. The diluent volume is V2 − V1. Use the same concentration unit for C1 and C2, whether that is mol/L, mg/mL or percent.
Good to know
- C2 has to be lower than C1.
- For large dilution factors, dilute in two steps to keep pipetting volumes accurate.
- Add acid to water, never water to concentrated acid.
