Importing chemicals into South Korea
Under K-REACH, importers of new substances, or existing substances at or above 1 tonne a year, must register or pre-notify through the Ministry of Environment and NIER. Non-Korean suppliers can appoint an Only Representative. Hazardous chemicals may need confirmation or import notification under the Chemicals Control Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act requires Korean-language MSDS submission by the importer. APIs need MFDS registration, including KDMF where relevant. Dangerous goods follow IMDG or IATA rules, and CEPA or APTA preference needs a certificate of origin.
