Deuterated Compound
A compound in which one or more hydrogen atoms have been replaced by deuterium, the stable hydrogen isotope with one neutron. Deuterated molecules behave almost identically in chemistry but are heavier, making them ideal internal standards in mass spectrometry. Deuterated solvents are also used in proton NMR because they give no interfering signal. Deuterium is not radioactive.
