Intermediate
A material produced during the steps of a synthesis that undergoes further chemical change before it becomes the final product. In pharmaceutical manufacture, intermediates are made from starting materials and are converted into the API. Their quality affects the impurity profile of the API, so they are controlled with their own specifications.
