Scale-Up
The process of moving a chemical reaction from laboratory scale to larger batches. It is not simply a matter of multiplying quantities: heat transfer, mixing, addition rates, gas evolution and work-up behave differently in bigger vessels. Scale-up usually involves safety assessment, route optimisation and demonstration batches before production.
