Loss on Drying (LOD)
A test that measures the percentage of weight a sample loses when heated under defined conditions of temperature, time and pressure. It captures water and any other volatile matter present, such as residual solvent. It is simple and widely used in pharmacopoeial monographs, but where only water matters, Karl Fischer titration gives a more specific result.
