Pyrophoric
Describes a material that ignites spontaneously on contact with air, usually within minutes or at once. Examples include alkyllithium reagents, some metal hydrides, white phosphorus and finely divided metals such as dry Raney nickel or dry palladium on carbon. Pyrophoric substances are handled under inert gas and shipped in special packaging with restrictions on air transport.
