Chemicals shipped to Finland

Finland's chemical economy is built on raw materials and processing. Pulp and paper mills use bleaching and process chemicals, Porvoo's Kilpilahti complex refines fuels and renewable feedstocks, and Kokkola is a centre for inorganic chemistry and battery materials. Mining and metal processing in the north, water treatment across the country and pharmaceutical and diagnostics work in Helsinki, Turku and Oulu complete the picture. For these buyers Zemixal's Inorganics & Metals, Specialty Chemicals and Lab Reagents divisions see the most use. Sea freight leaves Nhava Sheva or Mundra for HaminaKotka, Helsinki Vuosaari or Rauma and usually takes 28 to 38 days, often with a feeder leg in the Baltic. Air cargo into Helsinki generally takes 3 to 5 days. A COA and a 16-section GHS SDS travel with every lot.

  5. 2–5 daysImport clearance

Your broker clears the goods against local rules. Chemical oversight: ECHA (EU REACH & CLP).

Indicative door to door by sea: 35–55 days

By air the same journey usually takes 7–15 days from order to delivery.

Importing chemicals into Finland

Finland applies EU REACH and CLP. When a substance enters the EU at 1 tonne or more per year, the EU importer or an Only Representative for the Indian manufacturer must hold the registration. SDS and labels are expected in Finnish and Swedish. Active substances for medicinal use need GMP compliance and an EU written confirmation, and Fimea supervises authorised importers. Hazardous materials must be packed and declared to IMDG or IATA DGR, and customs entry needs the importer's EORI number.

Questions

Shipping to Finland

Can metal salts and battery precursors be shipped as dangerous goods by sea to Kokkola?
Yes, provided they are classified, packed and labelled to IMDG rules. We prepare the dangerous goods declaration and confirm UN-approved packaging in the quote. Some oxidisers and corrosives need segregation from other cargo, so tell us the full product list early and we plan the stowage accordingly.
What lead time should we allow for analytical standards for a Helsinki lab?
Stocked items can ship within days of order confirmation, while compounds that need resynthesis or recharacterisation take longer. The quote states the expected dispatch time for each line. Adding air cargo or courier transit of roughly 3 to 5 days gives your total lead time to Helsinki.
Which Incoterms make sense for mill and plant buyers in Finland?
Plants that use their own Baltic forwarder often choose FOB or CFR. Buyers who prefer delivered pricing can request CIF to a Finnish port, or DAP or DDP to site. EXW, FCA, CPT and CIP are also available. Name the terms in your enquiry and we quote on that basis.
