Chemicals shipped to Portugal

Portugal's chemical needs centre on generic pharmaceuticals and a handful of large industrial sites. API and generic producers in Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra buy pharmaceutical intermediates, APIs and impurity reference standards, while Estarreja runs chlor-alkali and polyurethane precursor production. Sines hosts refining and petrochemicals, and pulp and paper, ceramics, cork and food processing companies add steady demand for specialty and inorganic chemicals. Zemixal ships sea freight from Nhava Sheva or Mundra to Sines, Leixões or Lisbon, generally within 20 to 28 days. Air cargo to Lisbon or Porto usually takes 3 to 5 days, which suits standards and small lab packs. Each lot travels with a COA and a 16-section GHS SDS, and our catalogue search finds products by name, CAS number, formula or ZX catalogue number.

Importing chemicals into Portugal

Portugal applies EU REACH and CLP. For substances imported at 1 tonne or more per year, the EU importer or an Only Representative for the Indian manufacturer must hold the registration. SDS and labels must be in Portuguese. Medicinal active substances need GMP compliance and an EU written confirmation, and INFARMED supervises authorised importers. Hazardous goods are packed and declared under IMDG or IATA DGR, and customs clearance requires the importer's EORI number.

Questions

Shipping to Portugal

Which Portuguese port suits a buyer near Porto?
Leixões serves Porto and the north, and it is the usual choice for sites around Porto and Coimbra. Sines is the main deep-sea port in the south, and Lisbon covers the capital region. Sea transit from India is generally 20 to 28 days, and we quote CFR, CIF or delivered terms to your preferred port.
Can generic manufacturers in Portugal get pharmacopoeial grade documents?
Where a pharmacopoeial grade exists for the product, we supply it with USP, EP, BP or IP grade documentation. Each lot ships with a certificate of analysis, and impurity reference standards include characterisation data such as HPLC, NMR and MS where relevant.
How do customs documents differ between sea and air orders?
Both modes carry a commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, COA and 16-section GHS SDS. Sea cargo travels under a bill of lading and air cargo under an air waybill. Dangerous goods add an IMDG or IATA declaration. Your Portuguese customs broker will also need the importer's EORI number.
