Chemicals shipped to Tanzania

Mining is the largest chemical consumer in Tanzania, with gold operations around Geita and Mwanza needing reagents, inorganics and assay chemicals. Pharmaceutical formulators in Dar es Salaam and Arusha buy APIs and intermediates, and cashew, sisal and other agricultural processors use specialty chemicals. Paint and construction chemical producers, food and beverage plants and water treatment utilities add further volume. Dar es Salaam also serves as a gateway for landlocked neighbours. Zemixal ships from Nhava Sheva or Mundra to Dar es Salaam in about 14–20 days, with Tanga and Mtwara as alternatives. Air freight to Julius Nyerere International or Kilimanjaro takes roughly 3–5 days. Every lot carries a COA and a 16-section GHS SDS, and the Bulk CAS lookup lets procurement teams check up to 200 CAS numbers against the Zemixal catalogue in one step.

Importing chemicals into Tanzania

Under the Industrial and Consumer Chemicals (Management and Control) Act, importers and their chemicals generally must be registered with the Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (GCLA), which issues an import permit for each consignment. APIs and finished medicines need TMDA registration and import permits. Some products also require a TBS Certificate of Conformity before shipment. Entries are lodged through the TANCIS customs system, so the invoice must match the permit details exactly. Dangerous goods follow IMDG or IATA rules.

Questions

Shipping to Tanzania

What does GCLA registration mean for our order?
Both the importer and each chemical must normally be registered with the GCLA, and a permit is issued per consignment. Send us the permit before loading so the product names, quantities and CAS numbers on our invoice match it. We provide the COA and SDS the GCLA may request.
Can mining reagents travel by air to Tanzania?
Small quantities of some reagents can fly under IATA rules, but cyanide salts, strong acids and many oxidisers are restricted or cargo-aircraft only. Most mining chemicals are shipped by sea to Dar es Salaam. We check each UN number and advise the permitted route.
Is there a minimum order for Tanzanian buyers?
No fixed minimum applies. Lab reagents and standards can be ordered in catalogue pack sizes and sent by courier, while mining and treatment chemicals usually move in drums or bags by sea. The quotation proposes the pack size and route for your volume.
