Normality
A concentration unit expressing the number of gram equivalents of solute per litre of solution. The equivalent depends on the reaction, such as the number of protons donated by an acid or electrons transferred in a redox reaction. One mole of sulfuric acid gives two equivalents in neutralisation, so 1 M sulfuric acid is 2 N. Molarity is now generally preferred.
