Flocculant
A substance, often a high molecular weight polymer such as polyacrylamide, that gathers destabilised particles into larger, faster-settling flocs by bridging between them. Flocculants are typically added after a coagulant. They are classed as cationic, anionic or non-ionic depending on charge, chosen to suit the particles and the water.
