Chromatographers notice solvent quality first as baseline noise, ghost peaks or drifting retention. The HPLC and LC-MS grades in this sub-category are filtered and tested to keep those problems away. Alongside the usual acetonitrile and methanol you will find less common mobile-phase and normal-phase solvents, such as 1,4-Dioxan for HPLC, 1-Propyl alcohol for HPLC at 99.9%, 1,2-Dichloroethane for HPLC and 1-Octanol for HPLC.
For UV detection, the key figures are UV cut-off and absorbance at your working wavelength. For gradient work, a gradient-grade test showing no extra peaks across the run is more telling than a single absorbance value. LC-MS work adds a limit on metal ions such as sodium and potassium, which otherwise form adduct ions.
Bottles are amber glass, rinsed and capped to stop particle and plasticiser contamination, in sizes from 1 L to 4 L. Lot COAs report water, residue on evaporation and UV transmission. Please plan flammable solvent orders with sea or air routes in mind, as limits apply per package.
