Crystal Optics & Photonics extends the catalogue from chemicals into the components that guide and shape light. It covers optical lenses and prisms, windows and coated substrates, and laser crystals, mirrors, filters and wave plates. Examples include Barium fluoride windows in several diameters, Cerium-doped YAG single crystals, broadband non-polarising cube beam splitters, 532 nm band-pass filters and C-mount bi-telecentric lenses.

Choosing an optic starts with wavelength range. Barium fluoride and calcium fluoride transmit from the UV into the mid-infrared, while fused silica covers UV to near-IR. Then come dimensions, surface quality, flatness and coatings. For laser use, the damage threshold of the coating and substrate is critical.

  • Lenses and prisms for imaging and beam shaping
  • Windows and substrates in fluoride, oxide and glass materials
  • Mirrors, filters and scintillator crystals for lasers and detectors

Optics are packed in protective cases with lens tissue and foam, then boxed to prevent knocks in transit. Custom sizes and coatings can be quoted on request.

Crystal Optics & Photonics: questions buyers ask

Which window material suits infrared spectroscopy?
Barium fluoride and calcium fluoride transmit well into the mid-infrared and resist moisture better than sodium chloride or potassium bromide. Zinc selenide reaches further into the IR. Consider the wavelength range, chemical compatibility with your sample and whether the window will face pressure or heat.
How should optical components be cleaned?
Blow off dust with clean, dry air first. Then wipe gently with lens tissue moistened with spectroscopy-grade solvent such as isopropanol or acetone, using a single pass. Never rub dry surfaces. Coated optics and soft crystals need extra care, so follow the cleaning guidance supplied with each component.
What is Ce:YAG used for?
Cerium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet is a fast, bright scintillator that converts X-rays, electrons or blue light into yellow-green emission. It is used in electron microscope detectors, radiation imaging screens and white-light LED phosphor plates. Thickness and doping level are chosen to balance light output and resolution.
