Materials Science groups the products that research groups use to build and test new devices. It includes single-crystal substrates and wafers, electronic and OLED materials, technical ceramics, carbides and nitrides, and battery and energy chemicals. Examples are C-plane sapphire substrates 10 x 10 x 0.5 mm, Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) coated glass, Boron carbide powders, Alumina crucibles 99.8% and electrolyte solvents such as Fluoroethylene carbonate.

These products are specified by function. Substrates need defined orientation, polish and miscut. Conductive glass needs a stated sheet resistance. Ceramics need purity, density and dimensions, and battery chemicals need very low water and metal contamination. Each listing gives the main figures, and the COA confirms them.

Substrates and wafers ship in clean cassettes or membrane boxes. Ceramics are packed in foam to prevent chipping, and battery chemicals are sealed under argon. Each order includes the relevant documents and an SDS where the product is a chemical. Ask for custom sizes or orientations through the quote panel.

Materials Science: questions buyers ask

What does C-plane mean for a sapphire substrate?
C-plane refers to the (0001) crystal orientation of sapphire, perpendicular to the c-axis. It is the standard orientation for growing gallium nitride films used in LEDs and power devices. Other orientations, such as A-plane and R-plane, suit different films. The substrate specification states orientation and its tolerance.
Why is FTO glass used in solar cell research?
Fluorine-doped tin oxide glass is transparent and electrically conductive, and it withstands the high temperatures used to sinter titanium dioxide layers. This makes it the usual front electrode for dye-sensitised and perovskite solar cells. Sheet resistance and transmittance are the key figures to check.
How dry must battery electrolyte solvents be?
Lithium-ion electrolytes typically need water below about 20 ppm, because water reacts with lithium salts to form hydrofluoric acid that damages electrodes. Battery-grade solvents are dried and packed under argon. Open them only in a glovebox and confirm water content by Karl Fischer titration before use.
