Technical ceramics withstand heat, wear and chemical attack where metals and polymers fail. This sub-category supplies finished ceramic parts and carbide and nitride powders. Examples include Alumina Crucibles (50 ml) at 99.8%, small Alumina Crucibles at 99.9%, Alumina Ceramic Discs in several diameters, Boron carbide at 1-10 µm and 1-2 mm, Boron carbide micropowder below 60 nm and Aluminium carbide powder at about 325 mesh.

For labware, purity and density determine resistance to thermal shock and contamination, which matters in fusion and ashing work. For powders, particle size and purity decide how well they sinter and how hard the final part becomes. Boron carbide, one of the hardest materials known, is used in abrasives, nozzles, neutron absorbers and armour research.

  • Alumina crucibles and discs for high-temperature work
  • Carbide powders for sintering, abrasives and armour
  • Nitride powders for thermally conductive parts

Ceramic parts ship cushioned in foam to prevent chipping. Powders come in sealed containers with a COA and SDS. Custom crucible sizes can be quoted on request.

Technical Ceramics, Carbides & Nitrides: questions buyers ask

How should alumina crucibles be heated to avoid cracking?
Heat and cool alumina crucibles gradually, ideally below about 5 °C per minute for large pieces, and avoid placing a cold crucible in a hot furnace. Thermal shock causes most failures. Pre-firing new crucibles removes moisture and residues. Thicker walls and higher purity improve durability.
What makes boron carbide useful?
Boron carbide is extremely hard, light and resistant to wear and chemicals, and boron-10 in it absorbs neutrons. These properties make it valuable for abrasive grits, blasting nozzles, armour plates and nuclear control materials. Fine powders are hot pressed or sintered into dense parts.
Why does aluminium carbide need dry storage?
Aluminium carbide reacts with water and moisture to release methane gas and form aluminium hydroxide. This degrades the powder and can create a flammable atmosphere in closed containers. Store it sealed and dry, open it in a ventilated area, and keep it away from water and acids.
