Carbon nanotubes combine high strength, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity in a fibre a few nanometres wide. This sub-category supplies single-walled and multi-walled nanotubes, functionalised grades, carbon nanofibres and nanohorns. Examples include single-walled nanotubes of (6,5) chirality at 0.78 nm average diameter, amide-functionalised SWCNTs, aligned multi-walled nanotubes with 10 nm outer diameter, Carbon nanofibers at 50-200 nm diameter and 5 wt% MWCNTs dispersed in NMP.

Key figures are outer and inner diameter, length, carbon purity, residual metal catalyst and, for SWCNTs, chirality distribution. Functionalised tubes disperse more easily in solvents and polymers but with some loss of conductivity. Dispersions in NMP or water suit battery electrodes and conductive coatings, where uniform distribution matters more than tube length.

  • SWCNTs for electronics and optical studies
  • MWCNTs and nanofibres for composites and electrodes
  • Dispersions for battery slurries and coatings

Products ship in sealed containers to limit airborne fibres. Each lot comes with a COA and SDS.

Carbon Nanotubes & Nanofibers: questions buyers ask

What does chirality mean for single-walled nanotubes?
Chirality describes how the graphene sheet is rolled, given as a pair of indices such as (6,5). It decides whether a nanotube is metallic or semiconducting and sets its band gap and optical absorption. Chirality-enriched SWCNTs are used in transistors, sensors and near-infrared imaging research.
Why are CNT dispersions in NMP used in batteries?
Lithium-ion electrode slurries are often made in NMP, so a CNT dispersion in the same solvent mixes directly with active material and binder. The nanotubes form a conductive network that improves electrode conductivity at low loading. Pre-dispersed CNTs avoid lengthy sonication and give more consistent electrodes.
What safety precautions apply to carbon nanotubes?
Some carbon nanotubes have shown fibre-like toxicity when inhaled, so avoid creating airborne dust. Handle dry powders in a fume hood or glovebox, wear gloves and a suitable respirator, and clean spills with wet wiping or HEPA vacuums. Dispersions reduce inhalation risk considerably.
