Not every nanomaterial is easiest to use as a dry powder. This sub-category supplies non-oxide nanoparticles, ready-made dispersions and microparticles. Examples include Aluminium nitride nanopowder at APS 40 nm and 70-80 nm, Aluminium oxide dispersions (gamma, 20 wt%, 10 nm) in water, 2-propanol and ethylene glycol, an alpha alumina dispersion at 30-60 nm, and 1 wt% multi-walled carbon nanotubes in water.

Dispersions save the effort of breaking up agglomerates and give consistent particle size in the liquid. Buyers should check solid content, solvent, stabiliser and pH, as these must suit the formulation. Nitride and carbide nanopowders are chosen for thermal conductivity, hardness or electrical properties. Aluminium nitride, for example, is used in thermally conductive fillers but hydrolyses slowly in moist air.

  • Aqueous and solvent dispersions ready for coating
  • Nitride and carbide nanopowders for thermal and hard materials
  • Carbon nanotube dispersions for conductive layers

Each lot ships with a COA and SDS. Dispersions may settle slightly, so redisperse before use.

Nanoparticles, Dispersions & Microparticles: questions buyers ask

Why buy a nanoparticle dispersion instead of powder?
A dispersion arrives with particles already separated and stabilised, avoiding the difficult step of breaking up dry agglomerates. It improves reproducibility and reduces dust exposure. The trade-off is less flexibility in solvent and higher shipping weight. Choose the solvent that matches your coating or composite system.
How should nanoparticle dispersions be stored?
Store them sealed at the temperature on the label, usually room temperature and away from freezing, which can cause irreversible agglomeration. Some settling is normal. Shake or briefly sonicate before use. Check pH and appearance, and discard dispersions that have formed hard sediment that will not redisperse.
Why does aluminium nitride need protection from moisture?
Aluminium nitride reacts slowly with water to form aluminium hydroxide and ammonia, which reduces its thermal conductivity and can change composite properties. Nanopowders react faster due to their high surface area. Keep it sealed and dry, and consider surface-treated grades for water-based formulations.
