Chemicals for mining, mineral processing and metallurgy

Flotation collectors and frothers, leaching reagents, fluxes, acids and assay chemicals for concentrators, refineries and assay labs.

Mineral processing turns low-grade ore into saleable concentrate using surface chemistry and leaching. Xanthates make sulfide minerals water-repellent so they attach to air bubbles, frothers such as MIBC stabilise the froth, copper sulfate activates sphalerite and sodium hydrosulfide sulfidises oxidised minerals. Gold plants dissolve metal with cyanide, adsorb it onto activated carbon and use lime to keep the pulp alkaline.

What Zemixal supplies

Flotation reagents and leaching chemicals are listed in Specialty Chemicals and Inorganics and Metals, together with quicklime, sulfuric and hydrochloric acid, borax and fluorspar. Assay laboratories can source fire-assay fluxes, lead nitrate and high-purity acids for ICP and AAS digestion from Lab Reagents.

Regulated reagents

Sodium cyanide is controlled throughout its supply chain. We supply it only with end-user verification, the buyer's import permit and an approved transport plan, and we ask for these details before quoting. Sodium hydrosulfide and xanthates are also hazardous and travel in sealed drums or bags under IMDG rules.

Remote sites benefit from consolidated shipments. Tell us the full list for a resupply and we will plan one container where segregation allows, with every lot carrying its COA and GHS SDS.

Questions

Buying for mining, mineral processing and metallurgy

Which xanthate should I use for copper sulfide flotation?
Sodium ethyl xanthate is common for selective flotation of copper sulfides, while longer-chain types such as amyl xanthates are stronger but less selective. The right choice depends on ore mineralogy, so most plants confirm it with laboratory flotation tests.
How are xanthates packed to stay stable?
Xanthates decompose with moisture and heat, releasing flammable carbon disulfide. They are supplied as pellets or powder in sealed, lined drums or bags, and should be stored cool and dry. The retest date on the COA assumes those conditions.
Can you supply high-purity acids for trace metal analysis?
Yes. Nitric, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid are available in grades with metal impurities reported in ppb, suitable for ICP-OES and ICP-MS digests. Choose the grade according to your detection limits and blank requirements.
