Imidazole rings appear in histidine, antifungal azoles, proton pump inhibitors and many catalysts and reagents. This sub-category supplies imidazoles, benzimidazoles and related five-membered rings. Products include 1,2-Dimethylimidazole, 1,2-Dimethyl-5-nitroimidazole (dimetridazole), 1,1′-Thiocarbonyldiimidazole for thionation and Barton deoxygenation, halogenating hydantoins such as 1,3-Dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DBDMH) and (S)-Adenosyl-L-methionine disulfate tosylate.

Applications vary widely, so the deciding properties differ too. For reagents such as thiocarbonyldiimidazole and DBDMH, active content and moisture are critical because they hydrolyse. For nitroimidazoles and benzimidazoles used as API intermediates, purity and isomer content matter more. N-alkyl imidazoles are also used as ionic liquid precursors and epoxy curing accelerators, where water content and colour are the usual checks.

Moisture-sensitive reagents ship sealed under nitrogen, and S-adenosylmethionine salts ship cold. Each lot comes with a COA and SDS. Order research packs or ask for bulk quantities of common imidazoles through the quote panel.

Imidazoles & Benzimidazoles: questions buyers ask

What is DBDMH used for?
1,3-Dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin is a solid, easily handled source of electrophilic bromine. Chemists use it for bromination of aromatics, alkenes and benzylic positions as an alternative to elemental bromine or NBS. It is also used as a water disinfectant. Store it dry and away from reducing agents.
How is thiocarbonyldiimidazole used in synthesis?
Thiocarbonyldiimidazole converts alcohols into thiocarbonyl derivatives for Barton-McCombie deoxygenation and amines into isothiocyanates and thioureas. It is a safer alternative to thiophosgene. It hydrolyses in moist air, so keep it sealed under inert gas and check its appearance before use.
Why is S-adenosylmethionine supplied as a stabilised salt?
S-adenosylmethionine is unstable as a free compound and degrades at room temperature. Salts such as the disulfate tosylate improve stability for storage and handling. Even so, it should be kept cold and dry. It is used in methyltransferase assays and as a nutritional supplement ingredient.
