The indole ring appears in tryptophan, serotonin and a long list of natural products and drugs, which keeps indole building blocks in steady demand. This sub-category supplies simple and substituted indoles, fused and aza analogues. Examples include 2-Methyl indole, 1-Methyl indole, 2-Phenylindole, 3,3-Diindolylmethane, 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydrocarbazol-4-one (an ondansetron intermediate) and (2-Chloro-7-cyclopentyl-7H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidin-6-yl)methanol, used in ribociclib synthesis.
Indoles are electron-rich and react readily at C-3, so they can oxidise or polymerise when exposed to air, light or acid. Purity is often reflected in colour, with pure indoles being white to pale yellow. N-protected and N-alkyl indoles are more stable and give different reactivity, which matters when planning a route.
Products ship in amber bottles, sealed and sometimes under nitrogen. Each lot comes with a COA and SDS. Gram packs are typical, and pharmaceutical intermediates such as the carbazolone and pyrrolopyrimidine can be quoted at kilogram scale for process development.
