Quinoline and isoquinoline rings are found in antimalarials, antibacterials, alkaloids and many metal-binding ligands. This sub-category supplies both ring systems with useful handles for further chemistry. Examples include 1,10-Phenanthroline, 2,2'-Biquinoline in GR grade for copper analysis, 2-Chloroquinoline, 2-Chloro-3-quinolinecarboxaldehyde, 2-Methyl-8-quinolinol and the montelukast intermediates bearing the 7-chloro-2-quinolinyl ethenyl group.

Analytical users choose phenanthroline and biquinoline for colour-forming complexes with iron and copper, where GR grades keep blanks low. Synthetic chemists use chloroquinolines for substitution and coupling. For pharmaceutical intermediates such as the montelukast esters, stereochemistry and geometric isomer content are key specification points. Ask for a recent chromatogram if your process has tight limits.

  • Chelating ligands for spectrophotometry and catalysis
  • Halo- and formyl-quinolines for synthesis
  • Advanced intermediates for leukotriene antagonists

Each lot ships with a COA and SDS. Items are packed in sealed amber bottles to protect against light, and many can be supplied in research and bulk quantities.

Quinolines & Isoquinolines: questions buyers ask

How is 2,2'-biquinoline used to measure copper?
2,2'-Biquinoline forms a stable purple complex specifically with copper(I), after copper(II) has been reduced. The complex is extracted into an organic solvent such as isoamyl alcohol and measured by spectrophotometry. Its selectivity makes it useful for copper determination in metals, foods and biological samples.
Why does geometric isomer content matter in montelukast intermediates?
Montelukast has an E-configured double bond linking its quinoline to the phenyl ring. The Z-isomer is a known impurity that can carry through to the API, where it is controlled by pharmacopoeial limits. Starting with intermediates low in the Z-isomer makes it easier to meet the final specification.
What is 2-chloro-3-quinolinecarboxaldehyde used for?
It combines a reactive chloride with an aldehyde, allowing chemists to build fused heterocycles such as pyrazolo-, thieno- and furoquinolines in a few steps. It is made by the Vilsmeier-Meth-Cohn reaction from acetanilides and is a common starting point in antimalarial and anticancer research.
