Dyes and pigments supply colour to textiles, leather, paper, inks and plastics, and specialty dyes extend into optics and electronics. This sub-category lists industrial dye ranges together with research-grade chromophores. Industrial items include 1:1 and 1:2 Metal Complex Acid Dyes, Acid Milling Dyes, Acid Dyes for Leather, Paper and Inks, and Basic Blue and Brown dyes. Research products include 5,10,15,20-Tetraphenylporphine zinc and the laser dye DCM.

Dye selection depends on the substrate and fastness needed. Acid dyes suit wool, nylon and leather, metal-complex dyes give higher light and wash fastness, and basic dyes suit acrylics and paper. For research chromophores, dye content and purity matter because they define absorption and fluorescence behaviour.

Industrial dyes ship in fibre drums or bags, and research dyes in small sealed bottles. Each lot comes with a COA and SDS. Shade matching against your standard can be discussed for larger orders, and samples are available before bulk purchase.

Dyes & Pigments: questions buyers ask

What makes metal-complex dyes more fast than simple acid dyes?
In metal-complex dyes, a metal ion such as chromium or cobalt is bound within the dye molecule. This larger, more stable structure resists breakdown by light and washing and binds more firmly to protein and polyamide fibres. The trade-off is often a duller shade and stricter effluent rules.
How is shade consistency maintained between dye lots?
Manufacturers standardise each lot against a reference by adjusting strength and shade with small additions. Users usually check incoming lots by a lab dyeing compared with their standard under controlled lighting. Agree a tolerance with your supplier and keep retained samples from approved lots.
What are porphyrin dyes used for?
Tetraphenylporphyrins and their metal complexes absorb strongly in the visible region and are used in photodynamic therapy research, solar cell sensitisers, sensors and catalysis studies. Zinc and iron complexes change absorption and redox properties. Purity matters, since chlorin impurities alter the spectrum.
