Some industrial chemicals do not fit neatly into one end market, and this sub-category collects them. It includes specialty solvents, reactive intermediates and commodity organics used in resins, flavours, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Products include 1,3-Dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMI), Formaldehyde Solution (Formalin), Isophthalic Acid, Furfurylamine, Isovaleraldehyde, Methyl Phenylacetate and Citric Acid.

DMI is a high-boiling polar aprotic solvent that serves as a safer replacement for HMPA in some reactions. Isophthalic acid is a key monomer for unsaturated polyester resins and PET modification. Formalin is supplied stabilised with methanol to stop paraformaldehyde precipitation. For each product, check concentration, stabiliser and impurity limits against your process, and ask for a recent COA if your tolerance is narrow.

Packaging runs from bottles to drums, bags and IBCs depending on the product. Each lot ships with a COA and SDS. For repeat industrial supply, send annual volumes and we will quote scheduled deliveries.

Specialty Industrial Chemicals: questions buyers ask

Why is DMI used instead of HMPA?
HMPA is an effective polar aprotic solvent and additive but is a suspected carcinogen. DMI offers similar ability to dissolve salts and accelerate nucleophilic reactions, with a much better safety profile. It is used in alkylations, polymer chemistry and as a high-temperature solvent.
Why does formalin contain methanol?
Formaldehyde in water slowly polymerises to paraformaldehyde, which precipitates as a white solid. Adding 10 to 15% methanol stabilises the solution and prevents this. Store formalin at moderate temperatures, as cold encourages precipitation. Methanol-free grades are available for applications where methanol interferes.
What is isophthalic acid used for?
Isophthalic acid is used to make unsaturated polyester resins with better chemical and water resistance than those based on phthalic anhydride. It also modifies PET to reduce crystallinity in bottles and is used in alkyd coatings and high-performance polymers. Purity and colour are the main specification points.
