Metal powders feed sintering, additive manufacturing, thermal spray, pyrotechnics research and chemical synthesis, and each process needs a particular particle size and shape. This sub-category supplies elemental metal powders in mesh and micron grades. Aluminium alone is offered as -325 mesh at 99.5% and 99.97%, 20 µm at 99.9%, below 40 µm, 45+20 µm, and spherical -100+325 mesh at 99.97%.

Particle size distribution controls packing density, flow and reactivity, while shape decides how a powder spreads and sinters. Spherical powders flow freely and suit additive manufacturing and thermal spray, while irregular powders press and sinter well in conventional powder metallurgy. Oxygen content rises as particle size falls, so fine powders need careful storage.

  • Spherical powders for additive manufacturing
  • Fine mesh grades for synthesis and pastes
  • High-purity powders for research alloys

Powders are sealed under argon and declared as flammable solids where required. Each lot ships with a COA and SDS.

Metal Powders: questions buyers ask

What does -325 mesh mean?
It means the powder passes through a 325 mesh sieve, so particles are smaller than about 44 µm. A minus sign indicates particles finer than the mesh, while a plus sign indicates particles retained on it. A range such as -100+325 mesh contains particles between about 44 and 150 µm.
Why do fine aluminium powders need special handling?
Fine aluminium powder has a large surface area and can form explosive dust clouds in air, and it reacts with water to release hydrogen. Store it sealed under dry inert gas, avoid sparks and static, and use spark-proof tools. Never use water on an aluminium powder fire, use a class D extinguisher.
Which powder shape suits additive manufacturing?
Laser and electron-beam powder bed processes need spherical powders with a narrow size range, often 15 to 45 µm or 45 to 105 µm, for even spreading and dense parts. Irregular powders flow poorly in these machines. Check flowability and apparent density along with size before committing to a build.
