Lumps of pure metal may look simple, but they are a precise input for vacuum evaporation, alloy melting and crystal growth. This sub-category supplies metals as granules, shots, beads, chunks, pellets, ingots and pieces. Aluminium is offered as beads of 5-15 mm, chunks at 99.9% and 99.999%, granules below 1 mm and 3 x 3 mm at 99.99%, and ingots up to 99.9999% (6N) in defined dimensions.

Size and shape determine how a metal melts and how much surface it exposes to oxidation. Small granules melt quickly and dose accurately, while larger chunks and ingots have less surface area and therefore less oxide. For evaporation, uniform pellets reduce spitting. Ultra-high-purity grades such as 6N are used in semiconductor and research crystal growth, where even ppm-level impurities matter.

  • Pellets and granules for evaporation sources
  • Chunks and ingots for melting and alloying
  • 6N grades for crystal growth

Each lot comes with a COA. Reactive metals are sealed under argon or oil.

Metal Granules, Shots & Pieces: questions buyers ask

How do I choose granule size for evaporation?
Pick a size that fills your crucible or boat evenly and melts steadily. Pellets of 3 to 6 mm are common for electron-beam evaporation, while smaller granules suit thermal boats. Uniform sizes reduce spitting and give more stable deposition rates. Check the crucible liner compatibility for each metal.
Why buy an ingot rather than granules?
Ingots have far less surface area per gram, so they carry less surface oxide and pick up less contamination. That makes them preferred for ultra-high-purity melting, crystal growth and making alloys where oxygen matters. Granules are more convenient for weighing small, precise amounts.
What does 6N purity mean for aluminium?
6N means 99.9999% purity, with total metallic impurities below 1 ppm. Such aluminium is used for semiconductor metallisation research, superconducting studies and high-precision physics. The COA lists measured impurities, usually by glow discharge mass spectrometry, so you can check elements critical to your work.
