Carbohydrates serve as energy sources, structural units and signalling molecules, and researchers study them in many forms. This sub-category supplies simple sugars, modified glucose analogues, glycosyl donors and alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. Products include 2-Deoxy-D-glucose 98% for glycolysis studies, 2-NBDG, a fluorescent glucose analogue for uptake assays, Acetobromo-α-D-glucose as a glycosylation donor, and Acarbose at ≥95% and ≥98%.

Purity, anomeric form and water content matter most when choosing a sugar. Glycosyl donors are moisture sensitive and should be specified with their protecting groups. For biological assays, check whether endotoxin or microbial limits apply, since sugars support microbial growth once dissolved.

Most sugars are stable solids shipped at ambient temperature. Fluorescent analogues and activated donors are packed cold, protected from light and sealed against moisture. Every lot includes a COA with assay and specific rotation where relevant. Search by name or CAS number to find stereoisomers quickly.

Carbohydrates & Sugars: questions buyers ask

Why is 2-NBDG used in cell biology?
2-NBDG is a glucose molecule carrying a fluorescent nitrobenzoxadiazole group. Cells take it up through glucose transporters, so its fluorescence shows glucose uptake in live cells by microscopy or flow cytometry. It is widely used to compare metabolic activity between cell types or treatments.
How should acetobromo sugars be handled?
Acetobromo sugars are reactive glycosyl donors that hydrolyse in moist air and release hydrogen bromide. Store them cold, dry and tightly sealed, ideally under inert gas. Weigh them quickly and use them in dry solvents. Discoloured or sticky material has likely decomposed and should be checked before use.
Can I get sugars in larger quantities for media production?
Yes. Common sugars and analogues used in media or fermentation can be supplied in kilogram packs with a consistent specification. Share your annual usage and any pharmacopoeial or endotoxin requirements, and we will quote suitable grades and arrange lot reservation where possible.
