Molecular biology work depends on clean reagents, because trace nucleases, metals or fluorescent impurities can wreck an experiment quietly. This sub-category covers nucleosides and nucleotides, assay substrates, membrane probes and purification chemicals. Examples are 2-Deoxycytidine and 2-Deoxyguanosine (98%+), the peroxidase substrate ABTS diammonium salt at ≥98% by HPLC, and 1,6-Diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene, a fluorescence anisotropy probe for membranes.

For nucleic acid work, look for nuclease-free or molecular-biology grades and low heavy metal content. Substrates such as ABTS should give low background absorbance before enzyme addition. Fluorescent probes need high purity because small fluorescent impurities distort readings. The product page notes the grade, and the COA confirms the result for the lot.

  • Nucleosides and nucleotides for synthesis and enzymology
  • Colorimetric and fluorescent assay substrates
  • Probes and reagents for membrane and protein studies

Items are supplied in small vials and bottles, with cold-chain packing for sensitive products. Each lot ships with a COA and SDS.

Molecular Biology, Nucleotides & Purification Reagents: questions buyers ask

How is ABTS used in ELISA and peroxidase assays?
ABTS is oxidised by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of horseradish peroxidase to give a green radical cation that absorbs near 405 to 420 nm. Its colour develops steadily and can be read kinetically or after stopping. It is a common alternative to TMB where lower sensitivity and a wider linear range are preferred.
Do I need nuclease-free reagents for every step?
Use nuclease-free reagents wherever RNA or DNA is handled in solution without a protective lysis buffer, such as in reverse transcription, ligation and storage. Lysis buffers containing chaotropic salts tolerate more. Prepare solutions with nuclease-free water and dedicated plasticware to prevent contamination from hands and surfaces.
How should nucleotide solutions be stored?
Store nucleotide stocks frozen at minus 20 °C in small aliquots, buffered to near neutral pH. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles and acidic conditions promote hydrolysis of the phosphate groups. Solid nucleosides are more stable and can be kept dry and cool according to the label until needed.
